Esta é uma colaboração de Julian Sartorius e do Ensemble ET|ET, que Cigarra se propõe reinterpretar, investigando a premissa conceptual da performance. O título representa um padrão rítmico que consiste numa sequência de 23 notas distribuídas entre as mãos direita (R) e esquerda (L), tocada continuamente pelos cinco percussionistas. A narrativa sonora e estrutural da obra é controlada por um ou mais elementos através de adição e/ou subtração de instrumentos e processamento de som. O músico assume um papel de performer - mesmo quando não toca nenhum instrumento. Esta modulação sonora fluída e contrastante entre momentos etéreos ou beat drops reminescentes do EDM — Electronic Dance Music, dos anos 70s e 80s—, permite uma viagem por perspectivas auditivas vastas, e dá à perfomance um carácter site-specific, adaptável a diversos contextos.
Cigarra é um coletivo de geometria variável dedicado à interpretação e criação de música contemporânea. O grupo, constituído por 8 percussionistas, colabora com artistas de diferentes áreas que exploram o som como matéria central das suas práticas. Assumindo a experimentação como princípio, Cigarra transita entre a escrita e a improvisação, entre o gesto acústico e a manipulação eletrónica, procurando expandir as possibilidades expressivas da percussão e do som no contexto contemporâneo.
RLLRLRLLRRLRLRLRLLRLRLR is both the title and the score for the performers. This is a collaboration between Julian Sartorius and the Ensemble ET|ET, which Cigarra sets out to reinterpret by exploring the conceptual premise of the performance. The title represents a rhythmic pattern consisting of a sequence of 23 notes distributed between the right (R) and left (L) hands, played continuously by the five percussionists. The work’s sonic and structural narrative is controlled by one or more elements through the addition and/or subtraction of instruments and sound processing. The musician takes on the role of a performer – even when not playing any instrument. This fluid and contrasting sonic modulation, shifting between ethereal moments and beat drops reminiscent of EDM — Electronic Dance Music — from the 1970s and 1980s, allows for a journey through vast auditory perspectives and gives the performance a site-specific character, adaptable to various contexts.
Cigarra is a collective of variable composition dedicated to the interpretation and creation of contemporary music.
